The “circles”
Pedagogical guide for educator
This exercise compares all characters from the stories used in the previous exercises. In the first activity entitled “Reminding who the people around George are“ are drawn three colourful circles – the ones of the family, friends, and colleagues, and 10 tables with some of the names used in the stories in Unit 13.
Steps:
- The educator should print the circles and the tables and cut them in separate pieces of paper.
- Then he should invite AAWID to determine to which of the three circles of the main character belongs the concrete person (name).
The aim of this activity is to allow the educator to observe whether AAWID could differentiate the different social roles of the people comprising a social network of a person.
The second activity “The right person for the right activity“ contains two columns – the first one contains the names of some family members, friends, and colleagues of the main character from the previous stories, and the second one contains activities that he intends to do.
Steps:
- AAWID should link the names with the relevant activities, admissible for the role they take in the main character’s life and explains his decisions in more detail.
- Then should explain his choices in more detail.
Activity 3 “Who contributes to my independence”
Steps:
- As part of this activity, AAWID should list the names of the people who are most important to him and support his independence.
- Then he should arrange them in different circles, representing his family’s, colleagues’ and friends’ networks (the educator use the same circles from Activity 1) and explain how these people support and contribute to his independence.
